Steel Discs and plates are often used in conjunction with magnetic discs and plates to create closures, catches and increase magnetic pull. Steel discs attract to magnets and we have a selection of steel discs 10 mm - 50 mm diameter which suit our countersunk and pot magnets. Simply screw a magnet to one surface and a steel disc to the other. Not Magnets: Use steel discs and plates to attach to magnets. Steel discs are a cheaper alternative to using two magnets to attract together.

A magnet will attract to a steel surface with the same strength as it will to another magnet when in direct contact. However, the magnetic attraction between a magnet and a steel disc will be weaker than magnet to magnet when there is a gap between the two surfaces. These discs can be screwed in place with a countersunk screw and are designed to work with our range of disc, countersunk and pot magnets. Stainless steel screws should be used to fix countersunk magnets in place as a mild steel screw will absorb some of the magnetism, reducing the magnet’s performance.
